There are literally 1000’s of language groups in which only 20% or less of the people are literate.  This Adopt a Language group forum is a place where you can meet others who desire to encourage the process of making His Hands Reader available to people speaking a particular language.

Adoption can include many roles just as it does in the human adoption process – praying, resourceing, encouraging.  God’s answer to your prayers could make it happen!

Your role in the adoption of a language group could be:

  •     Praying… the biggest work of all
  •     Researching the need for that language and reporting back to your forum group
  •     Locating students from that language group who are studying in a university and encourage them to join your Adopt a Language team.  They will be a vital resource to your team.
  •     Making a trip to locate native speaking volunteer(s) to input the lexicon or create the simple Bible reading text.
  •     Visiting internet cafes in that region of the world where your adopted language is spoken and introduce web administrators to the HHR site with the online reading material
  •     Coordinating with short term trip agencies to take the HHR on mp3 players the Last Mile where there is no electricity or into prisons.
  •     Visiting online forums where people from that language group hang-out and posting an ad that points surfers back to your adopted language online reading materials.
  •     Contacting government officials in those countries where your adopted language is spoken and serving as a liaison to find ways to facilitate use of the HHR for their people.  Example – internet café subsidy student program, mp3 player distribution program,  integration with existing computer education systems – libraries, One Lap Top Per Child program
  •     Collecting old mp3 players at High Schools as donations and putting them in the hands of short term groups going to that area of the world to distribute.  (Dec ‘07 probably)
  •     Coordinating testing data and verification for your language data.
  •     Integrating your lexicon and primers (send them to me to put online)
  •     Sharing what you learn that may be helpful with other adopted language groups by posting in the Adopt a Language forum

If the language you want to adopt is not listed in the His Hands Reader- Adoption a Language forum

1.     First – Register and then login

2.     Second – append a not to this note and request that a folder be added for your adopted language.  Choose from among the 1000’s languages of the world listed by country at the  Ethnologue country index (http://www.ethnologue.com/country_index.asp?place=World)

[Registered users] Once your adopted language forum is listed then you can make the post(s) to your adopted language forum and encourage others to join you in prayer as a team of “co-adopters”.  This will be the place you may share your desires, experiences, and resources regarding making His Hands Reader available for people who speak that language.

For technical issues that you can not resolve among yourselves please make a post in the most appropriate HHR forum regarding that issue.  I will be watching and will try to answer your questions.

The language you adopt will be your baby!
