NO BOOKS, TOO FEW TEACHERS
Is this the challenge for the Deaf learning to read in your country? Is this the challenge with helping those who struggle with learning to read due to Dyslexia or even brain damage?
Volunteers around the world, have made a totally free Windows based computer program that may help your situation of "no books and too few teachers". I call the program for helping folks to learn to read ... "His Hands Reader" (HHR).
Please see the online demo of "His Hands Reader" . "His Hands Reader" has the potential to help anyone learn to read in any language and learn a second text or sign language. It can even help to learn to read lips.
So what does this mean to you?
1) First try out the program. Register and download the HHR program
the Download tab.
2) Volunteer to enter your own text language and sign language to share
with others via the HHR internet distribution network.

Volunteer Requirements:
o No serious computer skills or video editing skills are needed.
o You only need the HHR program and a simple digital photo
camera to put in your text or sign language.
o Basic English
How much time does it take?
For a written language -
o It takes about 24 hours to type all your words into the lexicon
(based on the 1700 meaning lexicon)
* English as a second language is immediately available once
you enter your text language lexicon.
For a sign language -
o It should take about 40 hours total to make the video and add the
video clips for your sign language.
* These hand signs will be immediately available as reading prompts
when reading any text primer in any language on HHR
For example:
After entering Cameroonian Sign language then
a Cameroonian deaf person could be helped by
seeing his/her familiar signs as they learn to read
English, Russian, ect. text languages. They can
also turn on the second sign language window and
learn signs for any other sign language loaded on HHR
For making reading primers in either text or sign languages -
o It should take about 3 hours to write a primer. Just rewrite the
primer text provided in the English section using your own "Easy"
grammar in your target language using your own language's lexicon.
You can also brainstorm and ask questions to other volunteers by joining the Yahoo Group at the Join Yahoo Group tab.
